While [Jesus] was speaking, a Pharisee invited him to dine with him; so he went in and took his place at the table. The Pharisee was amazed to see that he did not first wash before dinner. Then the Lord said to him, ‘Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You fools! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? So give for alms those things that are within; and see, everything will be clean for you.
Good Morning, The view outside of my window has changed- the planters I carefully watered all summer have been brought inside. They are scattered throughout the house sitting on black boot trays, hanging from existing hooks, clustered on plant stands and plant trays. They will have to adapt to the inside and to differing angles of light. My hope is that they will have the resilience to survive the winter. I may not see their inner strength. Leaves will fade and flowers will fall, greens may fade and the dry brown of winter may be primary. But with water, care, sun, and the right heat they will survive - and perhaps prosper. In this passage Jesus talks about the inner life and not just the one that is exposed to the world. John Wesley invited us to answer this question daily - ‘How does it go with your soul?’ In other words, how is your inner life? Does it match what you show to the world? Holy One, You who are an all seeing, all knowing, all compassionate God, may my inner life and my outer life grow ever closer as you continue me to walk this walk of discipleship.
